"Classical Guitars" A Romantic Celebration ![]() ![]() General Meeting (10:30 am) / Full Board Meeting (9 am) Marvin United Methodist Church Chapel February 11, 2010 ![]() Texas Guitar Quartet Since its inception in 2005, the Texas Guitar Quartet is quickly being recognized as one of Texas’s top guitar ensembles. The variety of styles and different influences of each member give the quartet unusual strength of sound and musical variety rarely seen in new ensembles. As a group, TxGQ claimed first prize with “Special Merit” in the 2006 edition of the Brownsville Guitar Ensemble Festival and Competition—one of the few competitions of its kind in the United States. An avid supporter of Texas-based guitar composers, the group performed world-premieres of several new works for guitar quartet. Because of their warm and casual stage demeanor, TxGQ has been a guest chamber group in several colleges around the state of Texas, including Texas A&M University in College Station and the prestigious Moores School of Music of the University of Houston. They were also part of the 20th anniversary edition of the Immanuel & Helen Olshan Texas Music Festival, as well as guest artists during the re-opening of Bass Concert Hall in Austin in early 2009. TxGQ was originally formed as a graduate guitar ensemble while studying with world-renowned guitarist and teacher Adam Holzman. Jonathan, Alejandro and Oscar reside in Austin, and Isaac lives in Houston.
