Scholarships

It is the intent of WSL to provide several scholarships that will encourage music education within our Smith County Community. In order to better support our students, changes have been made to our scholarship program starting the 2021 – 2022 school year and beyond. The changes are as follows:

 

Bud to Bloom Scholarship

In order to apply for the Bud to Bloom Scholarship, the applicant must be a current 7th grade student or below. Eligible students can have no more than nine months of private instrumental or vocal lessons for which the application is intended.

 

Middle School Music Scholarship

In order to apply for the Middle School Music Scholarship, the applicant must be a current 6th  – 8th grade student. The award can be used for private instrumental, keyboard or vocal lessons, a music camp whose purpose is to enhance the applicant’s abilities, or the acquirement of a musical instrument.

 

Alex Fleming Memorial Scholarship

In order to apply for the Alex Fleming Memorial Scholarship, the applicant must currently be an 9th – 12th grade student participating in a music program. The award can be used for lessons, camps, or instruments.

 

Music Merit Scholarship

In order to apply for the Music Merit Scholarship, the applicant must be a student currently enrolled in a music program at a college or university. The Music Merit Scholarship is comprised of a first- and second-place award for college students. The first place award is $1500 and the second place award is $1000.

 

For the Love of Music Scholarship

In order to apply for the For the Love of Music Scholarship, the applicant must be a legal resident of Smith County, Texas, and currently beginning a music student, who has had six (6) months or less of private music instruction.
