President’s Letter

“Remember, no man is a failure who has friends.” —Clarence, It’s a Wonderful Life
Community, friendship, and philanthropy are at the heart of who we are. In the year ahead, I intend to center my efforts around these three pillars nurturing our relationships, strengthening our sense of community, and continuing our commitment to giving back. When I think of the Women’s Symphony League, I am reminded of the power of women working together to cultivate music education and to foster our partnership with the East Texas Symphony Orchestra.
As we embark on a new year, I am both honored and humbled to serve as your President. We proudly remember and celebrate the rich history of our organization while looking ahead with purpose as we continue to build for the future.
This year, as I reflect on those who laid the foundation for our organization, I find myself thinking of my husband’s grandmother, Joyce Lindsey. She played an instrumental role in the 1960s in organizing and promoting music education efforts.
Joyce had a quiet way of putting others first, always looking for how her gifts could uplift the lives around her. Her legacy isn’t just in what she helped build, but in the kindness, generosity, and care she showed every day. It’s a reminder to all of us of the lasting impact one life can have.
To our Active and Sustainer/Social members, thank you for so generously sharing your time, talents, and wisdom in support of the League. As for our new members, we are so happy you are here. You are now part of an extraordinary group of women, and we look forward to seeing how you will share your gifts and contribute to our cherished organization.
My hope for each of you is that you find your rhythm within the League and continue to grow both new and lasting friendships. I want every member to feel welcomed, valued, and treasured for their stewardship and dedication. My aspiration is that together, we leave our community stronger enriched in ways that will benefit generations to come.
Sincerely,
Julie Odom Lindsey
WSL President 2026-2027
